  I just realized that there are melee, pistols, defence and guns. Dose each agent get one of each or is it just defence and a gun?

  Each weapon has an attack and defense rating. Your total power is listes on your profile page.

  If you want to maximize your agents strength for both, you will need the highest available attack and highest available defense weapons.
